The Greenville and Western Railway is a Class III railroad that operates 12.74 miles from a point south of Belton to Pelzer, South Carolina. Connections are made with Pickens Railway at Belton and CSX at Pelzer. The railway is a subsidiary of the Western Carolina Railway Service Corporation. On Thursday afternoon join us at the G&W Rwy. facilities located at 9851 Belton Honea Path Hwy (US 178), Belton, SC 29627. Look for the two large tents we will be setting up for the event.
Thanks to members of the Greenville Chapter of the NRHS we will have motorcars available for short rides on the G&W Right-of-Way. If you have never ridden on a railroad motorcar, be advised that it is a bumpy, noisy, open air experience. Hopefully the weatherman will cooperate and give us great rail-riding weather. However, this event will happen rain or shine.
We will have two large tents, tables and chairs on the grounds. Please wear comfortable clothes, but no open toe shoes or sandals, for your protection. At 5:30pm Charlies BBQ of Greenville will be catering a BBQ dinner consisting of chopped pork BBQ, smoked turkey BBQ, baked beans, coleslaw, chips and rolls. Sweet and unsweet tea will also be served.
Be advised that the railroad may require motorcar riders to sign a liability waiver.
