The Greer depot was originally built by the Piedmont & Northern Railway in 1913. It served the community of Greer well as a passenger and freight depot over the years. During the 1950s and '60s the building had fallen into some disrepair. The depot was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Recently the Greer Depot was purchased by the Western Carolina Railway Service Corporation. Thanks to the efforts of General Manager, Steve Hawkins and his staff, the depot has just undergone a $1.6 million renovation.
Join Steve on Friday morning for a talk and walking tour of the historic depot. The Western Carolina Railway Service Corporation offices are currently located in the depot. Juice, Coffee, doughnuts and Danish will be provided as part of the event in the recently completed rose garden. If there is inclement weather the event will move inside the depot. The Historic Greer Depot is located at 300 Randall St, Greer, SC 29651.
